Mounting Hobie Ram Rod Holders on a Revo

I'm mounting the Hobie ram rod holders up front on a Revolution.

There's no instructions, but I'm guessing the extra base plate goes under, and inside with the flat side facing up.

It's pretty tight down there and I want to make sure I don't end up with extra holes.

Where I want to mount it is also right on top of the rudder up/down cable.

Anything I should be wary of or tips for mounting these?

I am going to guess that you got the space save RAM Mount with 2 bolts. Easy enough, drill your holes and bolt it up. Drilling 1" holes for the scotty or RAM flush mounts takes a little more precision with the spade bit and the rudder lines under there..........again these 2000 RAM Tubes are killer with the pivot point 1/2 way up the tube, less of a stretch to pull out the rod..I use rivets on RAM mounts and no backing plate.

I do see what you mean, those would be nicer.

I got these, but maybe I'll see about exchanging them.

It does look like a similar base that you have. I've never worked with rivets, but that does sound like a better solution since I wouldn't have to deal with the plate in that cramped spot inside.

Thanks!

Nice looking setup Iceman. I am curious. With that style rod holder mounted up front, can you still slide forward enough to access the front hatch while on the water? Can the rod holder posts be easily removed to allow the kayak to slide on to a roof rack for transport?

What is that thing hanging out to the right of the FF?

MuddyMike, the plastic rivets that OEX sells are great, kind of expensive but they work really well.

Looks like the FF, battery and transducer at set up so that they can be completely removed. The bar off to the right, has the transducer mounted on it so it can be submerged over the side of the yak instead of sending signals thru the hull.

My buddy does something similiar with his FF. Not sure how drastic an affect it has on tracking but it obviously provides better signal quality instead of a thru hull install.

I believe that it's from MadFrog.com It's for the transducer to hang over the side into the water instead of mounting it inside the hull. I'm planning on using one for my transducer since it has side imaging and must be in the water (no inhull mount for it).

Mad Frog transducer mount.

I wouldn't know a good sonar return from a bad one........

But, you get exact temp reading at all times.... and you provide your sonar the perfect conditions for performance while eliminating ANY doubt in your mind. "Is this the best that my $600 FF is supposed to do?", now you know for sure.

They are actually aircraft grade aluminum, the transducer arm is homemade similar to Madfrogs, same Starboard material. I have this set up to move from X 13 to Revo.

These rod holders pull out leaving no ball, it is a flush mount similar to Scotty's only smaller hole.
