I bought some 4.5oz megabait lead lures for yo-yo'ing, and I have an assortment of squid lures. The guys at Squidco recommended the megabait with a single large hook over those with treble hooks. My bottom fishing rig for live bait is a 3-way swivel with a torpedo weight on about 8-10" on one swivel and a 5' leader on the other.

What do you expect to do differently between now and the beginning of next summer?
You was at the Kevin Nakada seminar where he talked for over 2 hours on this very subject. Didn't you get enough information?

Yes Sir, that was great. I enjoyed meeting Kevin. He's very passionate about fishing and very organized with his details. He's a good guy.

I launched this thread to see what others have to say. There is a wealth of information amongst kayak fishermen and other kindred spirits.

What were the highlights you learned that night from Kevin Nakada? (www.seasamurai.com)

Do you have more informative events like that scheduled? Thank you for that. I like the meetings you've been putting together. Meeting with the Shimano reel expert was another excellent evening.

I'm just glad he asked this so I didn't have to. Plenty of new guys this year (me included) that love this info.

And I just might be bringing my roland martins OTW for some mackerel...maybe??

Thank you. Snagging fish makes sense too.

What is the benefit of a large single hook on a Megabait? Anyone know?

Does it swim differently?

BTW, Joey (Owner, I think) has a sale coming up at Squidco between Thanksgiving and Christmas. 25% off gift certificates. It helps, probably both ways at that time of year. I bought two rods and a reel from him yesterday to freshen up my arsenal, but I have my eye on a replacement for my main La Jolla rod and reel. I might buy myself a gift certificate. Why not?

(Disclaimer: No, I don't know him. I'm not spamming for him. Just passing along information to kindred fisherfriends. He has always been good to me when I go there. No further connection. He doesn't know me from a hole in the ground.)

My wintertime technique is layered clothing and bringing my splash jacket out of the closet.
