la jolla 1st time!!!!!!

loved it. the waves were ok, a little bigger than i would have liked. the fishing a little slow, i think because of the waves and currents. all in all a good day landed a few bass, sculpin, and Barrie's. oh and lost something big, took off like hell. but it broke the line. i did notice some of the line was tore up, like some one used sand paper on it.

Did you surf any in? At least you had fun. Bummer about the lost fish. I'm sure you already know, but check your leader often. Barries tear them up, and you sure would not want to lose a quality fish because of frayed line. Welcome to LJ!

Broken Line Lost Fish

I had the same thing happen to me... Line took off like h**l and I waited to set the hook, only for the line to pop a few inches short of my swivel. The line was frayed too. Thought it might have been a thresher.

If a T takes line straight out from a 2oz torpedo can it shred the line with its tail? The break coincided approximately where a 5ft T would have mangled the 7ft leader with its tail. Thougths..?

I was scared clicking on the link. Thought there would be a photo of you holding a WSB... I would have been forced to quit.

A buddy of mine caught a 57 pound T on 12lb mono at Torrance Beach last year. I saw it in person.
