Anyone do la jolla in the afternoon ?

I was thinking of trying out la jolla for the first time after work at about 5pm
does anyone ever go out later in the day for like an hour or 2

it will be the first time to la jolla so i was thinking of just giving it a try and either not fishing or only fishing a little bit padde out to the bouy etc

also weather is saying it supposed to be windy too so mebbe it might be better to just hit he bay

opinions for a surf launch noob?

I would not go out today or tomorrow due to high wind and bad weather, but la jolla anytime is always good

I was out early this morning to slip in the narrow weather window. Gentle rain and S breeze. Then it cleared, the wind shifted to the W, started to blow and the short W swell and chop began to build. My cue to head on in. It looks "okay" from the beach but once you get past the reserve buoys, hang on. First time? I'd pick another day. Or you could always practice your surf launch/landing.

I plan on battening down the hatches for the next day or so.

Caught and released one thresher (my first) so I had a good time.

I too went out this morning. Got pretty choppy. Almost rolled it twice coming in. It is also supposed to get windier through out the day

would not have helped much today. After the first few hours, if the fish were not boiling next to you, you would not have seen them. I stayed out til 11:30ish with on and off whitecaps. Not a bad day to practice surf launch and landings though cause the waves were all chopped up.

I would wait until all the white caps die off if your just starting off..it can get real nasty out there in the canyon.
