breathable waders and a paddle jacket are what most wear.

Ahh, how I long for those cold San Diego fishing sessions.
I've gotten around to some kayak fishing locations that are a bit colder than old SD and did a little write-up on kayak fishing wear. Looking forward to getting back in the boardshorts..........

Check out Bass Pro Shops, they have some Chest waders for under $70 fully water proof with the belt, and booties. OEX Mission and Kerney Mesa both have great jackets and the PFDs are priced right also.

Waders are ok. Not as comfortable as dry pants, Kokatat makes dry pants with socks or without, I prefer the ones with the socks, The mid chest dry pants are more comfortable than the waders and make it alot easyer to unload that 24oz of coffee. They also make them with a zipper! The Kokatat pant are more money but well worth it.

I like my hodgman breathable stocking foot waders. Harder to pee though.
Sports authority carries them for about $100. Every couple of weeks they have a coupon on their website that is $25 off of a $100 purchase. Not a bad deal- and you can try them on there to figure out your size/ if you like them. |

Best Zippered Wader
All this talk about pee-ing has got me thinking about upgrading my waders. They work fine and are quite comfy but when nature calls, they are a bit difficult.
Anyone have an opinion on the best value in a zippered wader? Those dry pants look interesting as well but that brand is usually quite expensive. Wade in guys, (and ladies). Bob |

Great suggestions - thanks. And watermanatwork I've been reading over your site - good info there too. I plan to do a test drive on Mission Bay next week with either OEX or MB SportsCenter - I'll find out how wet and cold I get and judge from that what to get for kayak clothing.
I prefer to get something local vs. on-line ordering. Being tall and thin doesn't work for most sizes - need to try before I buy - I don't know of Cabela's or Bass Pro shops in the SD area. Last edited by old_rookie; 04-14-2010 at 09:19 AM. |

You may not have much choice locally.
I am 6'6" with size 14 foot. Had to buy XXL to get length for legs and feet. They are baggie but are way more comfortable than a farmer john wet suit. |

That's a good point. Local shops will have common sizes, and this aint a fashion show.

I do like paddling pants with surf trunks underneath. I wore my ankle high split toe surf booties and pants last time out and was happy with the setup.

I have the Hodgman Weir waders. After 4 years of use (exclusively on the kayak) they have developed multiple leaks, including the seams down the leg. It's time for a new pair.
