4/11 Glassy, sunny, with a touch of bicuit...
Got a late start and was at the pier by late grey light. Snagged a few green macs with Nelz and then off to the grounds. I started fishing in closer than the rest of the crew above the submerged kelp one flylined and one midcolumn. Just as the sun had cleared the hills my flyline gets toyed with....
I get the rod out of the holder and give it a couple of seconds....seemed like nothing was going on, so i started reeling in for a check----then it takes off with a quiet slow run against light drag (lever) so i crank if up a notch----then it goes off. Some really quick short runs (to the north, thankgoodness)...and then some really solid drag ripping for a nice 10 minute battle. Stuck a hole in him and that's all she wrote for that Croaker. Checked in at 42 pounds 8 ounces. SAWWEEETTTT Thanks to Pat for the great on the water shots. Thanks to Brad for translating his GPS numbers in to words for me......the rest of the crew was working when i left, but i fear i might have pulled an Adi (hope not)..... Here I am trying to hide my emotions..... Insert bait here..... |

Great Job! Nice fish. I, too, hope that they show big time tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll be wearing that big grin tomorrow morning.

Great photos Dan. The early bird isn't the only one that gets the worm.

Nice fish, Dan. Only one barely legal calico for me. Couldn't get bait all morning, so threw the iron and trolled a rapala. Beautiful day out there. Just have to get out a little earlier tomorrow and hit the pier.

nice job Dan!
i seen you get spun around and towed! saaaweeeet! quick work on that fattie too! skunked for me, ruthless sea lions kept making me pull in my baits... nothing really going on and was tired of the cat/mouse game with the furbags so i left around 845am.. very beautiful warm morning, should keep some sort of action going.. AguaChico's got a yellow story! good luck |

Great HAWG Croaker Dan -
Glad you got one on to the gaff - Stoked for ya. Hope they are on the roam again tomorrow - sounds like the only bait to be had is near the pier. |

Dan nice nice WSB. I don't like circle hooks when fishing for whites, but your pic makes me think twice.
I tried to put the wood to a small YT this morning and pulled the hook. No problem. It's been so long I was happy to have an easy launch an d fish all day. No woories, no driveing, no gas - just fishing. That dog consumed 24 perfect macs between Neil and I. I wish there was a legal to to rid lj of that beast. |
