Carolina rig (sliding egg sinker) & Spectra ??

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for fishing a sliding egg sinker with spectra, I use #65 and #80 powerpro but the egg sinkers always fray the spectra at the barrel swivel. I have tried using small round files and a mag glass to try and clear out any burrs on the sinkers but I still have the fraying problem. Other than retieing religiously or using mono is there anything else I can do to prevent the fraying?

Try a drop of Krazy Glue on the knot.

I use either a glass bead pulled tight against the swivel with the spectra knot pulled into the bead to protect it or a Carolina keeper slipped just above the knot.

There is a type of egg sinker that has a slit in the side and a plastic insert that you twist to lock in the sinker on the line. This makes it easy to add and remove sinkers without retying hooks.

I bet the plastic piece has a similar effect as the beads in terms of protecting the line.

Hey J mo,

Is that 2 separate rigs in that picture, or are you putting that egg sinker between the hook and the hoochie?

Just curious,

Willy

This is what I like to use instead of an egg sinker. It slides great and never damages the spectra or knot. I like being able to easily remove the sinker when I want to fish the surface, need to change to a heavier sinker, or when I am done fishing there is no sinker banging against my rod while driving.

I found these at Squidco. Not sure who else might have them.

I found the slider connectors cioppino is referring to at Sport Chalet also. Their versatility is great; it is nice to be able to take the sinkers off going in and out of the surf and in the car, for fly-lining, changing weights, etc.

I use the sliders also but add a red bead at the knot.

Gregg, I caught your MOMMA on a slow troll......

Just an illustration of the carolina keepers versatility; and by the way the hoochie is an effective lure, just ask, well, your momma
