Rincon/Malibu Road Trip

My son just got his learner's permit so we're going on a roadtrip to Rincon Monday and Tuesday for some surfing. Surf looks pretty small so I thought I'd bring the kayak too. I'll look to fish either the Rincon area on Tuesday morning or more likely Malibu on Wednesday morning. Might as well experience Malibu fishing before they slam the door shut on us.

I'd appreciate input on the plan. Malibu vs. Rincon, where to launch, what to target and where. (I'd like to get a big ling!). Of course if anybody is going out those days, I'd like to tag along.

Also, what is the main blog for guys that fish up there?

Thanks, Tom

"Might as well experience Malibu fishing before they slam the door shut on us."...

The only door that will be slamming shut on me,...will be the Prison door from not paying their fines...
They'll need one of those Ocean Enhancement Restraining orders to keep me out.

Have a great time up there TCS..enjoy...

Get a copy of Working Group 3 map, the red areas are the kayak fishing spots with easy launches and good fishing.

Maybe try Carpinteria reef. Close by (to Rincon) and an easy approach. Eat lunch at "The Spot" in Carp -- that's the ticket.

This time of year, you probably have a better shot at getting some good surf at Rincon. Some good fishing south of Rincon at at Arco Island, or just North at Carp Reef. If you're feeling adventurous, you could try fishing Naples Reef before its closed.

Thanks for the replys. The revised surf forecast is showing much bigger surf, so I'll probably just leave the boat at home this time around. See you out at LJ.

Looks like a good call given the forecast.
