Nice Day on the Water 10/30
Flylined the mack around the corner and then sent him down to the bottom. Something big took a bite down there but didn't get hooked. Lingcod maybe? I had a few shrimp so I sent those down while drifting back towards the kelp and back through it. Did get a few rockfish and rehooked em for the round trip back down like was described in yesterday's thread. I got a lot of bites on the shrimp that didn't translate into fish caught. Its pretty easy to steal off the hook. Don't take this report to mean that there are no big ones in LJ. If someone competent goes and gets skunked, that would be another thing! Nice day on the water though. Really nice. Next time I might just stick to the rapala off the condo. Catching bonito is pretty fun! |

Another report from 10-30
It was a pleasure to meet you Tom. As you know, Chris and I got skunked, not that we rank among the A list of LJ fishers. I could not even make bait. Chris caught two macs which we shared. After being dragged around for a few hours, my bait got hit by something but I got no love. Chris's bait was donated to a seal. The only fish I caught today were two small Bonitos on my sabiki.
The conditions were wonderful. A little cool at the launch but no wind to speak of and beautiful weather as the day wore on. By my count there were only five kayaks on the water along with two private boats and one party boat. Even the seals were scarce. It sucks to get skunked but I was with good company and it was beautiful on the water. Maybe next time. Bob Last edited by dsafety; 10-30-2009 at 07:51 PM. |

Glad you had a nice day on the water. Do you want to continue to have nice days on the water? Do you know where the bait was today? It's in an area where we could lose the ability to fish for bait or any other fish forever.

Tyler,
I respect and fully support your, (our), efforts to attain a reasonable MLPA outcome. I wonder, however, if it is appropriate to hijack a fishing report to reinforce the message. You are preaching to the choir but I thank you for your efforts. Bob |

Glad you had a great time on the water.....and as far as appropriateness towards hijacking....absofuckinlutely.......these reminders need to be constant if you would like to keep fishing LJ!!!!
Alot of people are still sitting on the sidelines and need to be reminded to write emails to politicos et. al. to make sure the message gets spread or guys like yourselves may never have a chance to fish enough to join the A squad!!!! Rant off!!

Yup.
Thanks for the report, sounds like a great day on the water. Bonies are always fun (except when you are looking for something else...) I think there are alot of good factors that could turn this into a very good winter for fishing the Jewel. Lets just hope that our efforts will pay off, and we are able to save this precious resource. |
