99 Ranch Market on Clairemont Mesa usually has decent candybar size squid. I also found the frozen stuff from Squidco works well also, looks just like fresh dead after thawing.

Usually it costs the same per lb at 99 Ranch and Squidco. At squidco, you don't have to scoop it yourself.

FYI, Ranch 99 is not fresh dead. It's just thawed frozen.

Asian markets are the best. There's a market on Mira Mesa Blvd. just west of the 15, pick out the nicest of the bunch. Perfect size too.

Is there a difference between the Asian market's squid and a bait shop squid?
