Barracuda frenzy La Jolla 05/22

Failed to look at the surf report today so did some crazy surfing in and out. Waves were big and the sets were long and the wave intervals were very short.

Started the morning by going to get bait at scrips peer. No bait around there. Headed out parallel to the MPA back to the point. Chased some birds early throwing irons in 70 ft of water off the point some small hits but not fish. Switched to a mustad tracershot jig and started ripping barracuda. Kept catching them until a cuda took my lure. Then on to the crocodile spoon, every cast there was a cuda. Quality fat cudas all day. Super fun ended with about forty or fifty cudas released amazing day.

PSA: a gentleman lost his drive on the way in and did not find it.
My fishing buddy lost his GoPro if any happens to find it.

When the cudas size up, they are remarkable brined and smoked.

Nice Action! Congrats. Good that you made it out and back in without incident. Anyone ever use a short cuda as bait?

That’s an excellent day of catching and having fun!
Sorry to hear about people losing their gear. Hopefully someone will find it and get it back to who it belongs to.

There was a turbo drive and a GoPro a diver left next to the launch when we pulled out. I remembered this post and went to grab them once our kayaks were loaded, but someone took them. I asked a person standing next to spot I had seen them and he said the guy that took them looked like he worked for the hotel or the kayak rental company. Sorry I wasn't able to pick them up. I should have grabbed them before loading the kayaks. Hope this helps you find them.

Oh snap thanks. I will have my buddy do some calling and see if he can’t find it.
