Where to forage sea urchins & mussels in San Diego?
Any recommendations where I can find sea urchins & mussels in San Diego during low tide? Cheers, Alfred |

If you want an urchin, dive to the bottom of a kelp strand and carefully yank it off a rock. That's where the sweet uni gold is. Daily limit was 35 last I checked.

Go for a drive around the La Jolla, bird rock coast line at low tide. You’ll surely run into rocky areas and tide pools. Just make sure you’re not in a MLPA

I would be careful about where you harvest. Back in the 80's, there were signs warning not to eat the mussels. I don't think the water has gotten any cleaner, and San Diego is often subject to the pollutants of Tijuana, so just be cautious.

Thanks for the suggestions, how about Sunset Cliff or Swami beach?
