Nice catch.

I know an angler who has the California record triggerfish.

He caught it in the SMB!

Sweet! And a healthy size, too. I have heard they make good ceviche.

I saw one swim past me one time diving in La Jolla. Was looking for YT that didn't show up, and the flappy boy just cruised past me doing that weird flap flap flap thing with the dorsal/anal fin combo lol.

I got into a very big school of them in Santa Monica Bay last year. They were huge and it was pretty much a fish every cast for over an hour.

As FullFlavorPike mentioned, they make pretty good ceviche since their meat is tough and doesn't turn to mush if it's sitting in the mix for a long time.

What is the record? I don't see Triggerfish listed on the CA DFW website.

Some of the ones we were catching that day were really huge.

I thought I had a picture of his certificate, but can not find it.

He is known as Joe "Triggerman" on Surf fishing.com website.

I went to Baha Santa Rossallita with him, years ago.

They are so common in sea of Cortez that are called little pigs in Spanish by the locals.

We got sick of catching them at Mako-ville

Amazes me that with such a small mouth they can get hooked on a large circle hook.
