Redondo 6/6

First time kayaking Redondo beach with a couple fellow BWE'ers. Weather was... less than ideal to say the least.

We ventured out to around 300' and the rockfish were hungry. Nice sized models, all of mine on either half mackerel or full squid. They ate the flatfalls as well. Plenty of bass, barracuda, and sanddabs as well. Apparently a giant lingcod straightened out one of the guys' hooks right at gaff, definitely a heartbreaker.

Aaah, what a pretty picture!
Maybe it has to do with the "sportfishing industry" being still at the docks. That's thousands of fish more for kayakers. But they are coming back...

Yes, the gate was open and they only charged us from 7AM onwards.

Yeah... although don't sport boats like to anchor under 300' to avoid tangles and tired passengers? I had some really nice marks at 400' I'd like to go back to with a 16oz weight. 12oz wasn't cutting it.

Heading out to King Harbor tomorrow morning, PM me if you want to meet up.
Anyone know if I have to pay more if I bring a small trailer to the parking lot?
This is the first time I will have fished here so not sure how things work.
I plan on arriving around 5am

What does parking there cost? Is there any free street parking?

I believe $2 per hour with billing starting at 7AM regardless of when you actually arrive. And no, street parking isn't available.

I would like to see a sonar shot of a rockfish on the bottom at 400'

Good meter work. That wouldn't look like much on my FF...although I use an older FF with a 3" screen.

At that depth they look like "dots" suspended over the bottom typically 5-15' above the seafloor. If you bottom lock your unit o the first 40' off the floor and use the low frequency you can pick them up pretty discernibly.

for instance in 400' you would see from 360-400. you can see the bottom color change indicating a resonance off of some hard bottom and you will see dots suspended above that but not attached to anything else. Drop your baits and reel em up 2 at a time.

BTW thats a nice lookin outback in the left of the shot

When did it change? It used to be a flat $4 if you wrote "hand launch" on the back of the ticket.

My FF screen is 3.5 and I split it in half to see the waypoint map lol. When bottom locked, look for rocks or fish/bait marks from 5 to sometimes even 40 feet and drop right on it. I'll try and get a pic uploaded next time I go
