2/4 Channel Island Breakwall

I went to Ventura harbor on Sunday but when I got there I saw chaos as they were dredging the harbor entrance and did not want to deal with that noise. So I went to Channel Island harbor and made my way to the breakwall. No wind and perfect California winter temps made for a beautiful day. I landed a couple of rock fish on the south end of the wall on the ocean side and this dark thing that looks like a short dark lingcod but the colors are not right, any feedback on what this thing is would be nice. I have a hard time knowing what is on my line sometimes in the ocean. I then caught a couple of small calicos inside the wall. Clear water.

Fun fishing. First one looks like a brown rockfish or grass bass. Hard to tell from the image. Second one is a juvi-cabezon.

I’m also going with the cabezon. People tend to confuse them with lings and sculpin. I’ve seen a deckhand on a half day boat snip a cabezons spines thinking it was a sculpin.
The visibility has been insane in the ocean lately.
