Cabo Amberjack

My first post....

I've been kayak fishing in Cabo for 4+ years using an Ocean Kayak Trident 13 with mixed results, mostly targeting Cabrilla and Pargo. I launch off of Palmilla Beach, near our condo. Last week was my first outing with a new Hobie Revo13 purchased locally and shipped to Los Cabos by freight forwarder.

My maiden voyage with the pedal Hobie was really more of a shake down cruise, but through dumb luck I managed to hook into this brute 30# Amberjack using a Krocodile jigged off the bottom in only 40' of water. It was too big for my collapsable net. I had to let it make multiple runs until it was belly up. My biggest kayak fish by far. Good eats, similar to yellowtail but tastier.

I'm hoping this is the first of many on the new Hobie....

Damn!!! Some of my fondest memories were going out of Mobile to the oil rigs and catching amberjack in the gulf.

Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on the catch. I bet that was a really fun fight.
