This is one of the best-rated sea kayaks under $1,000. It's also the top kayak used by rental places because it combines speed with stability. I live in OB and have paddled it out to the kelp beds, around the pier and via Mission Bay channel... no problem.

At West Marine, Cabelas and every other website, it's $599

Yes mine is used, but I'm throwing in a seat, bungee cords, paddle, life preserver and brand new $60 set of wheels. You can be on the water in just a few hours. I've fished from it, thrown lobster traps (legally!), but also rode waves just for fun and exercise.
