Oceanside Sat afternoon 8/19 Bait Everywhere

Did a Saturday afternoon paddle. No problems finding bait in the harbor, ocean and everywhere I went. I launched late and wanted to test some new knots, gear, etc. Boat ramp was a zoo... I highly recommend watching this sometime if you want a laugh and great people watching, I guess backing a trailer requires more skill than most have. You definitely have to keep an eye out for boats coming into the harbor as most of these guys come in at full throttle. Anyways like I said... bait everywhere, paddled out past the last buoy and headed to the pier then out another half mile and back right before sunset. I trolled a live mac, then a large Gulp grub... Lots of small bites but no luck other than bait. they weren't big enough to swallow the grub but about half of it was gone by the time I made it back to the harbor. Still a nice relaxing paddle.

I will be spending more time in this area and heading farther outside to do some more exploring... its close to my house and an easy launch. Cant wait to have my trailer finished so I can park in trailer parking without getting ticketed.

You put in the time....next time hopefully. I don't know how many times I've trolled a mac around newport or dana point area for nothing, but I keep trying

I've been fishing Oceanside and Carlsbad the last couple of months. The last 2 times I fished Oceanside, just outside of the pier I hooked up on Thresher sharks. Lot's of bait, some good scratches on the meter but nothing great out of there yet. I paddled to Buc pipe the last time and caught some calicos and sandies there with a ton of bait all around. I am wanting to spend more time out there to see if any yellows might be learking around.

Timing is everything. Maybe I will see you out there some time. Fishing in a red Malibu Stealth 12 and always have the radio on.

If you're getting a lot of short bites on a trolled grub, try a kastmaster type lure with the hooks in the back, or a LC flash minnow 110.
