Fish while the tide is changing. Drop squid on the bottom. Fish heavy line. 30-40lb mono on a 5-6/0 j hook. When they swim threw you'll hook up.

Bait on Bottom, mackeral, afterdark. Try to cast to the channel, sit back, contemplate, comune, talk to your maker, catch a ray, give praise.

And if your rod is in a holder, make sure your bait feeder is on or the drag is set loose or you'll setup will be dragged into the depths before you know what happened. |

Sweet. I'll give it a whirl. I have never caught one (but I've seen a couple 100#ers cruising the kelp on dive days and damn that is a burly looking beast) and I want to see if they're as strong as everybody says.
