We launched at the boat launch yesterday in oside. I think it was pretty easy, but a lot of jackass boaters in there, in a hurry so be careful.

There is also a launch site in Carlsbad at the north end of the power station. There is a little rock jetty there to give a little shelter. I have never personally launched there because it looks a little sketchy. I prefer to launch from Oceanside Harbor just from the simplicity perspective, but as stated, you have to be on guard from all the boats that will gladly plow you. I generally steer wide of the boat traffic and head out on the right side where the waves are not generally very high. There are some occasional large waves that can be rather intimidating though.
