Saturday Tail

Finally! It has been waaaaaaay overdue to say the least! The last YT I caught prior to today was the day that Brad got his first.
Managed to land a nice thick 40" unit. Left the launch at 0600. I had a real hard time making bait. Only 3 spanish by 0800. Did not take long to lose one on a piece of kelp and the other pulled a Hudini on me. I probably trolled an empty hook for who knows how long. Went back to the kelp to make more bait and managed a spanish and a choice greenie. Got clear of the kelp and gave my little green friend a tow. It didn't take long!
ZZZZZZZZ and then nothing. Looked back at my line and it was limp. Crap, I thought to myself that it was probably a seal that stole my buddy. I threw the reel in gear, disengaged the clicker and began winding in the line. Suddenly I am loaded up! Game on baby!! After 15-20 minutes I grabbed that sucker by the tail and heaved him aboard. Time was 10:45
and I was using a 1.5 oz slider. Location was just S of the big hotel in 115 feet.
Paddled by Adi on the way in looking for a OTW shot, but no camera.
Someone at the launch took a couple of shots, so I will post it if I get it.

I'm really stoked for you, I know it's been a drought. Nice job, wish I could have been there. Busy installing my new color FF/GPS, hopefully I'll get it all figured out and be out there manana looking to hang on myself. Congrats!

Not sure what the weight was, but I would guess about 25. The fish felt heavy.

Brad. What kind of FF did you get? GPS built in? I got the Garmin 178C and love it! I spray the connector with dielectric grease once in a while and have no corrosion.

As far as "grabbing the fish by the tail", I only do this for YT and only if they appear to be manageable! Also, I always wear a pair of gloves that seem to stick to the fish. They also are comfy for paddleing (insert limp wrist here). Actually, they are quite fashonable 8)

Mark, nice fish!

Sorry, I busted my camera on Friday. Hope to have a chance to take a pic on another one of yours soon.
