Islander Mothership Trips 2016

Here we go! If you've done these trips before, you don't need any convincing. If you've never done one, you owe it to yourself to get on one of these trips, they are unlike any other kayak fishing experience. As always, live bait, food and sodas are included in the price. Alcohol, Fish Cleaning, and Tip are additional.

All trips are aboard the Islander and leave out of Fishermans Landing in San Diego Bay.

1.5 day trip ***SOLD OUT***
$350 per person
Fishing SCI
May 20th-22nd (Fri-Sun)

2.5 day trip ***3 SPOTS LEFT***
$585 per person
Fishing SCI
June 10th-13th (Fri-Mon)

We will have the same booking process, so take note of the following:

When you call to register your spot, we will take a $100 non-refundable deposit on 1.5 and 2.5 day trips. The only exceptions to this refund are' if the trip does not run (due to weather, or lack of sign ups, acts of God).

14 days prior to the trips departure, we will automatically charge the remaining balance (if you need to pay by different method be sure to contact us prior to this date. Once the remaining balance is paid, that is also non-refundable. If you'd like to pay the trip in full at time of booking, that's up to you, but it will also be non-refundable in the event something comes up that keeps you from doing the trip. This year we would like to avoid doing "Payment Plans" on these trips, this makes book keeping straight and less complicated. We ask that you pay deposit or pay in full only.

*OK PA people the Islander is going to allow 2 Pro Anglers per trip this year and is first come first served. 12 or 14's does not matter. At the time of booking let us know if you wish to sign up for one of those 2 PA spots. The two customers that sign up first will be on the manifest as the only 2 allowed to bring a PA on the trip. So please do not show up with a Pro Angler if you did not get a PA reservation.

**All Native Watercraft Slayer Propels are welcome.

Call OEX Mission Bay (619) 866-6129 to book your reservation or any questions.

A friend and I went on the early trip last May and the weather was really, really rough due to a storm that had blown through the day before. High seas, rough conditions...., but it was now of the greatest fishing experiences of my life. The Islander is a really comfortable boat, the captain and crew are excellent, and Rick, the cook prepares great meals (even when he could barely stand up to cook due to the really high swells).

I might not have caught as many fish as I would have liked due to the weather (and probably my lack of experience in fishing SCI), but it was an incredible fishing opportunity and one that I hope to be able to do again this year. And hopefully the weather will cooperate this time!

I dont think the Islander or any other kayak mothership operation would want to deal with the PA 17 loading and off loading, davit or no davit! maybe hop on the Shogun 6 day skiff trips with it! that would be a kick!

What Tackle to bring?

As this will be my first Kayak trip to the SC Island, I was wondering if any of you veterans would have any recommendations on what to bring, or not to bring? I mainly fish out of La Jolla for Yellows and Calicos would the tackle be the same? Am doing the June trip any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The PA spots are full on both trips. There is a waiting list for this and there are 2 names on each trip so far.

The 1.5 day trip is sold out and a couple spots left on the 2.5 day.

PLEASE READ

I just received a call from John Conniff the owner of the Islander-

He informed me that the Islander is waiting for a steering component that is stuck in customs in Canada and it will not be delivered in time to make this upcoming trip. (May 20-22) The boat would not be operational without this new upgraded steering component. It was suppose to have been delivered last week. Also a concern was the upcoming weekend weather forecast. Looks very ugly right now.

So John has proposed these options: (For anyone already on the roster for the May 20-22 trip) He opened up two dates, these dates are not a trip that was already on the books:

Option 1
May 27th-29th Fri-Sun

Option 2
June 13th-15th Mon-Wed.

Please let us know if any of these dates will work for you.

You can call the shop at 619-866-6129

Hi,
Bill and I are on the 5/28 trip with our PA12's
My question is: How will the PA's be stowed while in route to the destination?
I've seen pictures of the other yaks stacked on their sides.
Will this be the case for the PA's?
I'm just trying to plan how I will need to load my PA.
Thanks, Scott

The PAs usually sit flat on the bottom. But do the crew a favor and don't load anything on it for the trip over and back. They will give you time to outfit it on deck or in the side racks before launching. Even then consider what you can have handed to you when you are in your yak. Then put that stuff away while your bait tank fills up away from the boat.

Thank you Greg
It's a lot lighter if I keep the pedals and batteries out of it so I'll store those in a separate crate

Trip Cancelled

We unfortunately have to let everyone know that we just got a call from John the owner of the islander and this weekend’s trip is off due to lack of sign ups. If you were on this weekend’s Islander trip that was going to run the 27-29th of May, you will have the option of receiving a full refund or $50 credit towards the trip that we will hopefully run June 13-15. Please call the shop at 619-866-6129 if you have any questions. We are calling everyone who was on the trip individually right now.
