11-14-2015 LJ Report

Howdy everyone, first time caller long time listener. Here's a quick fishing report for Saturday at LJ. Launched at 6am to a full crowd and small waves. Air temp was 42 degrees with a water temp of about 68-69 degrees. Made bait north of the pier after having no luck at the kelp. Lots of bait on the bottom, both spanish and greenback with varying sizes. Baited up a 8in greenback on a dropper loop then drifted for a while with no luck. Ended up doing a slow troll with the bait about halfway down the water column . No bites all day so I decided to head back in and then BAM! The reel starts screaming, throw it into gear, set the hook, now its on. Fortunately there was no kelp, lobster pots, or structures around for this guy to break himself off with. After a good fight I get this guy on board, bleed out, gutted, and in the bag. Catch happened in 100ft of water about 150 yards off the kelp. 37in, 18lbs gutted

Congrats on the YT. It's nice to see that there's still some action. I was one of those setting up at the beach just after 6am. Just like the last 3 weeks had a hard time making bait. Even when you found some bait they just didn't want the sabiki, even with some squid on some hooks. Saw some marks on the FF that looked like Yellows, but no takers. Got a few rock fish and a legal calico, but released all. Everyone of then spit up red crabs. Could be the fish are full of red crabs and aren't hungry. Thanks for the post. Tight Lines
