Where to mount fish finder on hobie outback
Looking to mount a chirp 5 ff on my old hobie outback. Center mount on forward hatch seems way too far to see display. Have read that side mounts interfere with fishing. For those with an outback, appreciate your input.

I have mine on 1.5" ram ball on left side. Wouldnt change location. Doesn't get in the way at all, and plenty of adjustments with the ram ball to tighten it up where you want it.

I get into my boat on the left side, so I mounted it on the right side to the back of the big cup holder. I use the 1.5" ram also. I am very happy with it. Not in the way for me.

Sailing mast mount 1.5 " ball
Very few guys go this route , but some of the key advantages are : the rail is free in the event of having to do an open water recovery, and the unit can be placed inside the kayak without removing wires (possibly running risk of exposure to corrosion). I also prefer the rail clear as much possible when fighting or landing big fish , especially something like a large halibut that might be clipped in and secured while still alive and thrashing . Another key advantage of placing on the mast is that your peddling , and or paddling will not be hindered from the forward placement of the unit . Two disadvatages are that the unit might be harder to adjust , and visibility can be reduced (which can be easily solved by buying a 9" inch screen or 7" inch.) Another advantage of using the sailing mast mount is that you are not drilling into rail of kayak . On my installation I did use a Hobie wire plug kit which is very clean and has a factory installation look. Small things like these can help with resale value when considering upgrading in the future . Pictures can be made available if needed .
