I've had a similar problem. I rarely see fish arches on mine either, but it looks from your photos that you may not have the sensitivity set correctly. I've had to fiddle with the various levels to get it so that it now seems to working correctly.

This is a very common issue or question. The northern guys have a lowrance rep that holds seminars every year on how to operate and adjust it. Wish we had a local rep that does this down here. I sure could use it.

The surf launches are not so bad it's the rolling it on the landings. I found out on one of my older Elite 4 FF. So now I make sure using my HDS5 that it is turned off on launching and landings. If the unit is powered on and any amount of moisture gets in through the memory card slot, the unit is toast. Also always make sure the sockets and harness connectors have plenty of dielectric grease in them.

Try switching the fishing mode to freshwater. General water use is for deeper water stuff, the freshwater setting will work better in the depths we fish. Then if you have to, check your noice reduction setting and surface clarity. Try low one at a time, see what happens. Is your transducer in hull? And were you near kelp in the screenshots?

I was in sd bay, right out by the moored sailboats at shelter island. It's mounted in the hull in front of mirage drive behind sail mast, and is set to shallow water setting

I had found a ton of bubbles from when the goop was curing. Ripped it out and will try my ram arm mount for it and see if I like that more, won't be as clean looking, but might be a better option for me

If it does work out for the better, it's going to be interesting finding a spot to put all of that xducer cable

Duct seal .... problem solved. You can mold it anyway you like and dont have to worry about drying etc. Easily removable. Get it at home depot.

i run a ram arm and its been great so far. i dont really feel the drag but i can definitely hear it dragging in the water. only complaint is that it gets hung up in the kelp sometimes but i dont fish much in heavy kelp.

I've had three different mounts. First was Goop. When that finally popped off, I built a wet well. That worked better than the Goop. When the wet well finally sprung a leak, I gave the duct putty a try. That worked the best of all. I mounted it in the old wet well to hold in place.
You can easily test it out with some putty and press it onto the hull. The stuff is easy to remove if you find it doesn't work for you. I get good strong bottom echos over the canyon all the way down to 1000' which is the limit of my fish finder. |
