shelter island to the outside kelp point loma
I have fished san diego bay a lot. But i just got a new pro angler and now I'm really able to move around and cover a lot more water. I'm just a little unsure of the areas I'm legally aloud to fish. |

You're better off launching in mission bay, and fishing the same stretch of kelp that connects all the way down to PL. There is definitely some good fishing to be had there. I can attest to this first hand. Just south of OB pier and about 1-2 miles out. Great area.

Used to do it a lot. There are some big calicos deep in the kelp around the lab and new hope rocks. Really fun fishing. Just make sure you ride the tides out and then back in again.

Just did it yesterday bro, paddle sucked (maybe in part to the wind picking up)but seemed a lot farther than La Jolla, personally I would rather go to La Jolla

I used to rent a yak at MCRD and paddle to Point Loma kelp. If you don't time the tides right, it can be a bear. Shelter Island would be a piece of cake compared to that. You can also put in at Pescado beach and get there quicker, but the launch can be daunting.
