Kayak stand

Question for anyone. I found two heavy duty carts thrown out from a library remodel. I was thinking of adapting them to hold my PA and my outback.
Question is this, how much support underneath the kayak is enough?. The carts are 48" long and I'm thinking of mounting some pvc on them to fit the hulls. How far out do I need to make the pvc rails? Is 48" long enough or do I need to add to the overall length?

If you're going to keep it on the stand for a long time I would say the longer the better. I have my PA12 on a trailer and I used all 10ft. of the PVC. Good luck with your project.

Stand

Thanks, and yes, I plan to keep the kayaks on the stands when ever they are not in use(sometimes one to two weeks).
