Hobie P/A 14 or 12???

Hi,

I am looking for some opinions. I had a 14' PA when they first came out and loved it but was not able to use it as much as I wanted and ended up selling it. I want to get back into the kayak fishing and was wondering if I could get some opinions on the two different platforms and maybe what you would use. Are the extra 2 feet really a difference maker. Hauling the boat is not a problem. So, what are the attributes of the both? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

The following is a cut from a post on a hobie website that compared the two and I'd have to agree; "Day in and Day out the PA 14 is a friendlier serious fishing machine for the simple reasons of , Overall room, ease of peddling , speed of peddling, tracking, stability and tackle and rod management."

I have a 14 and a few friends with 12's. The 12 front hatch does a better job of keeping the water out. The 14 has a larger hatch and hold more gear. The 14 tracks better and doesn't bounce around in the bumps. I also think it's a faster boat to pedal. You can't go wrong with either.

I can attest that it holds a ton more gear in the hatch, compared to my PA12. And Bert is always smoking me on the water in his 14, so if he says it's the 14, then I would tend to believe him.
IF weight or transport is no issue, go with the 14.

If transport, storage, loading and unloading is not an issue than 14. If it is then consider the 12... I went with 12 for the reasons mentioned.

^x2. Transport, storage, loading and unloading. Storage was an issue for me so I went 12. I've fished next to the 14 numerous times and that beast tracks WELL. But as stated earlier, either us great. I'm 170lbs, so the 12 is more than enough for me.

Thanks all for the input. I really appreciate it! 14' P/A it is. Yes, I remember that it tracked well and even though it sticks out of the bed of my truck a bit (rests on trailer hitch mount) it's not an issue to transport. Looking forward to getting back into it!
