Maiden voyage was a huge success

So I finally took my new o.k. Trident 15 out today and I can't be happier.. Took me about 10 minutes to get used to it and the different type of stability it has..I can say I love the speed for sure...anyhow Launched out of Dana point this morning. was on the water at 6am, made my way to the outside of the breakwall, saw two other kayak fishermen out there. No more then 3 cast and was in a good fight. I first thought it was a halibut then it went to the kelp. I had no Idea at that point was just glad I had #30 braid and #20 mono on top... here is a picture of my pb calico bass

He was about 21" and made some really good tacos ☺
That's my kids hand in the picture
And here are the tacos

Also cought a Lil sand bass he was released unharmed
What a great way to christen the new yak... Was back at kids beach by 130.

Back to the t15 the only other things I'm going to do is install a rudder and find a pad for under the seat I like the new o.k. seat back but the bottom needs a Lil more padding.
Happy yakking

Regarding adding some kind of pad to the seat, I have a closed cell foam pad I bought at Walgreen's for a couple bucks that was meant for kneeling on while you work in the garden. Not sure they would stock them this time of year...

And 85 years is a bit of an overstatement, the average 10 year old bass is 18 inches, so you probably caught a teenager there. http://www.sportfishsandiego.com/calico-bass-info.html

It was a legal fish, you caught it, you ate it, good for you.

Nice PB Calico, looks like you're happy with your new plastic. I think those two other kayak fishermen were Ed and Steve http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/showthread.php?t=23849

Yea the macs can get quite big. I catch them on a waxwing all the time. They sometimes are about the size of the big frozen ones you can buy at the bait shops. There are smaller ones around but hard to find sometimes. The dogs in DP seem only to be a problem near the end of the big Jetty and sometimes the bait barge. They rarely bother me anywhere else. I caught my PB at the barge a few weeks ago, he had to be at least 200#. Glad I was quick and only lost 20 yards or so.

Nice Fish!!

Pad for your seat?? Try a used boogie board.
Cut it to fit, goop it in. Your ass will love you for it.

Yep, that was probably Steve and I that you saw. We saw quite a few kayak fisherman yesterday, a lot for a non-Summer Monday. Glad you like your new sled. Nice calico too, but I'm glad it's your last to kill

I paddle a beige Native Watercraft and was wearing a red vest over a yellow splash jacket. We fished the outside of the long jetty near the end. Depending on timing, we would've been in your first picture.

Not only does it have some get up and go to it. It handles the surf real well.

@tacmik Yea it does great with the cop too in the after noon it got pretty bad out there..I also love how water tight this yak is knowing I can take hits from multiple sides and the inside of the yak staying water tight is awesome... I think the only water that was in there was from the fish I through in the rod pod

Shouldn't that ACK label be an OEX label instead?
