9 hours on the water 9 Species of Fish

Went out 11/5 for the Zero swell which was actually 2-4 , thanks MSW! Couldn't believe I didn't get wet.

From the beach you could see a ton of diving birds, sweet looks real fishy!

Got out and bait everywhere and only greenbacks. Loaded the tank and off to fish. The sea lions where relentless yesterday, just ask anyone out there.

They were so bad, I decided to go rock fishing while they were around.

Went to one buoy for nada. Went to another and it was game on. Wide open rockfish bite right now. Every single drop of frozen squid got hit within seconds, every drop, hit within seconds. Went through Two bags of frozen squid. Ran out.

On one drop, I got hit hard, and started a sleigh ride. I'm thinking Halibut, maybe large Lingcod, or perhaps a WSB. Finally got to see color, and dang, an effing shark, not sure what kind (googled sharks when I got home and found out that it was a dogfish shark about 5 foot long).

A few rock fish later and I get slammed hard again, cool I think here's another chance. After a short sleigh ride, Mr seal pops up with my rockfish in his mouth plus he's hooked, dang again.

I did catch a very large red in the group so it was still a very fun day.

Here's the list:

1) Greenback mackerel x10
2) Brown rock fish x2
3) Red rockfish x2, one HUGE
4) Calico Bass (released)
5) Sand Bass (released)
6) Whitefish x2 (released)
7) Sculpin (released)
8) Dogfish Shark (released)
9) Sheepshead x2 (released both) one went belly up and I could revive it so I kept it.

I love the ocean, so much out there to see and catch, La Jolla is AWESOME!

Good Report !

Nifty call switching to rock fish. Nothing worse than *holding-out* and getting nothing. Good choice releasing fish and still coming home with a nice Bag O Fish.

Way-to-Go!

One of these days, I will be out in LJ....still learning the ropes in the bay ;-)

Seals were just as bad today as they were yesterday.

The very first time I went kayak fishing was in La Jolla. I have fished the bay a couple of times for Halibut. I have fished La Jolla over 200 times in three years of kayak fishing. Once you fish La Jolla, it's hard to fish anywhere else.
