Newport, 8-4-14

Launched a little before 6am with Landwhale from the USCG beach. It was cloudy and there was a bit south wind. Water was 72.5º and slightly dirty. There was almost no tidal movement, so the wind was welcome to at least give us a bit of a drift.

As all my reels are at Shimano getting fixed I borrowed one of Steve's setups and kept it simple (the fish cooperated in this). I fished the 1 rod with the same Owner bullet head the whole morning. The bait of the day was by far the 5" rootbeer/gold flake Paddlerz. I did catch 2 on New Penny though. Hot Sauce was used for taste of course. By 8:00 I had 17 bass and finished at 10:30 with 22. Only a few legals though. We called it quits at 10:30 because I backlashed my one setup so bad it was no use trying to fix it on the water.

Overall, I had a fun morning and hopefully Steve did too.

Thanks guys. We always welcome company, we fish mostly Mondays and occasionally a Tuesday instead. Not sure where we're heading next week.
