LJ night session

Figured I would try to get out there and see if Mr WSB would co operate. swell height 2 ft. Moon rise around 0100. set up near the point soaked some asian market dead squid. Put out the squid light and started jigging for some candy. Well about an hour into it my squid light died. So i pinned on some dead squid to a salas and played that game for a bit. The swell interval seemed to increase and I decided to call it quits. No action just a FYI for anyone else thinking of going out. The research vessel new horizon came up on the radio and was letting me know of there intention to do ops in the are and said they haven't seen a whole lot of fish sign in the canyon area. Small bait fish were jump as I drifted around the kelp. Good luck to anyone else that goes out.

Same here today. Morning conditions were very choppy but settled down by noon.

What kind of squid lights are you using?

seafood city squid 7 inchers or so. Had a LED light connected to the battery. it was one of those squid lights that have the plastic bb's in it. I may have popped a fuse I still haven't examined it. What were you using? Did you meter any thing worth while?

I don't think I've ever jigged a squid from the bottom at night. If you get them up to the surface your best bet is to net them or snag them with your ganion. There has to be squid in la jolla in the first place

Spent many a lonely night chasing squid with my light. Good on ya for getting out there.

Yep.... It's a lonely existence out there at night. I know the feeling well.
Thanks for the report.

Not using squid lights yet but in the market. Been looking at hydro glow squid light setup. Trying do find something inexpensive to make bait to store for future trips. So far these seem to be the best ones out there. I metered squid just small patches.

For sure. I could have waited behind a keyboard and read if there was anything going on or get out there and look for myself. I put this trip as dues paid.
