Day 1 big bear lake

Went out on the lake today for 3 hours, wind blowing pretty good. We quickly realized how little we know about trout fishing....going out for some structure fishing around the docs in a bit...beautiful view....

x 2. Avet for trout may be a little overkill. Work with what u have. Tie on a barrel swivel and attach a 4lb Fluoro leader, maybe 6-10ft. Try trolling with a small rapala, kastmaster, needlefish, etc....

X3. Might want to purchase light weight (cheap rod and reel) 4lb line or at least what you use for a sabiki and some 2' to 3' of 4lb leader. Those trout can see really good in that clear water and tend to be shy. Good luck

If you hook into a 20 lb. trout, you're in good shape.

We usually use 6 lb. test line with an 1/8 oz. spoon.

They have a K Mart in Big Bear and you should be able to pick up some cheap light gear for under $30 for each set. That's all you need for trout. just use 4lb to 6lb line.

X4 another nail in the coffin! Worth buying a cheapo reel pre-rigged at a bait shop for what you're doing this weekend. Catching trout or any fish for that matter is fun on the lightest gear. Good luck on day 2, keep us posted!

Depending on how you are fishing, the avet is less overkill then you would think. Spool it up with lead core line, run a big Ford fender with a snubber and 24" of 4# floro. Then a little Rapala, worm or power bait and troll it around.

Last time I trolled for trout my go to reel was a Calcutta 400. Yeah the avet is a LITTLE overkill but whatever
