Baja report
First day, I nailed a 38 lber on iron with a Avet JX 6/3. My wife had just gotten me a Gopro for Xmas so this was the first time I used it. She did all the editing - it took some 7 minutes total before I had color on 12 lbs of drag. The tails down there are super mean!! The drive down was super beautiful and uneventful (except for a minor detour north of Ensenada), lobsters plentiful and I cant wait to fish with those guys again!! Went down there in 2010 with a few BWE guys. Kayaks, Porta-Boats, and Panga.
It was insane fishing. Those yellowtail are MUCH stronger than what we are used to in LJ. Even the little 25 lbers beat you up. My JX 2 speed drag was smoked by the end of the trip. lol Luckily Avet gave us a couple of Pre-production JX Raptors to test out on the trip - much better! On one of the days we all (4 guys) fished on the Panga. For several hours we had Non-Stop 4 Way Hook Ups on these crazy fish. All deep water Yo-Yo fish in 130 - 150 ft. We boated 30 donkey sized fish for our limits (including the Captain and his son) in one day. We lost about 10 fish to the rocky pinnacles - even with the drags buttoned down. There was No indication the wide open frenzy was going to stop. Everyone onboard was whipped but we just could not stop. -At one point I looked over the side and saw a school of fish that was 300 strong. We gave a large share to the local fisherman and their families that night. It was awesome. The following day we packed up our gear and headed to L.A. Bay for a few days to do some fishing. More insanity.
