Mission Bay Lobster Opening Weekend
Went out again to the same spot on Saturday evening and did the same thing from dusk till about 11. It was very slow and I only pulled one undersize for till about 10 and finally had one pull with a giant one, another legal, and one barely undersize. I then got two other legals on separate pulls. I only caught 6 lobsters but 4 were legal and since it was technically still the 28th I limited out. Brought some of them to the chargers game and grilled them during the tailgate. The tails were twitching and moving on the grill so everyone knew they were fresh. Good luck out there. Get them while it's hot. |

mission bay lobster
Great post on the mission bay lobster. Fished with you Friday at La Jolla and it looks like you had better luck on the lobster opening. They look great and I bet they tasted great. I was at the Chargers game and the only way that win would have been any better, would have been having some local lobster and cold beer. Looks like life is good. Maybe I'll see you out at La Jolla this week. I'll provably go Wednesday. Keep it up, look like you're having great luck. Mark

Consistent haul of keepers, nice going.
Your tail-gate party had it rocking with the best grill going on in the parking lot. Yes, that sounds like a great weekend for you and the Chargers Woo-hoo, they are now a 500 team We'd take 3.5 legal lobsters each per trip, that's a pretty good average. Let's see if we go 4 times this season, that puts 28 bugs in our freezer. That'd make for a pretty decent season, and might hold us until next season's opener. Of course, any crabs are a bonus.

Dude, new to kayak fishing and limits lobster on the opener after nailing a couple of yellowtail and a halibut only weeks earlier.
I will be seeing you tonight in hopes of hooping some legals. |
