newport tomorrow

Ill be soaking some bait outside the harbor tomorrow. Plan was to head south but it sounds like I should save the gas until the tomato soup goes away.

I'm always down to kayak, its kids, life that gets in the way.. May be able to escape saturday morning.. Not sure till I confirm practice times for boys..

your referring to rincon or cl? Rincon is super easy launch btw. Just like refugio which last month had commerical guys catching . Ok cats out of bag..

Paddled LJ late sunday afternoon, not fishing. Launched from the shores, skirted the beds around childrens pool and went up to the pier. No red tide. Seemed like the current was moving uphill. Kelp was down compared to last weekend. Hardly any finbait on the surface. Only saw 3 boats and 2 kayaks fishing. The lack of kayaks could have been due to the launch being closed from 6-3:30.

Lost Angels area?

may get a sesh this week...sunset bch, escondido, or leos (la/malibu area).
anyone in the l.a. regions?
the seabirds have been feasting pretty hard in some spots, would imagine there'd be submarine fishing too.

pm/email...screename at the hotmails.

got into a wide open bite 9/12 county line

pretty sure they were calico . unfortunately they were all in they 2 -4 " range . caught them on a sibiki . one haul pulled up 3 . mid to upper water column , and in 80 ' of water . surf was not bad 1-2 ' , with an occasional 2.5 '. might have been one of the few times this summer that i made it out and back in without flipping at county . maybe my timing is improving, or putting some experience under my belt is starting to have its effects? . water was colder than i would expect considering it has been 110 degrees plus in the valleys and probably 80 plus degrees at the beaches . i did not have a meter , but i would say about 65 degrees . i could not make squid , but two work boats were anchored. caught lots of lizard fish , sand dads , and a couple spanish . i hooked one onto a halibut rig and sent him down . i opted to remove the trap , good or bad ? while it was in the rod holder , the clicker started screaming . wound up with no bait , and the leader above the hook frayed in two different spots, 2 - 4 " up . any opinions ? halibut , shark , or did i snag a rock ? got some sun and exercise and called it a day .
