Lost Gear.....
Went out to SD Bay today for a little fishing trip. I caught fish, but lost an $800 Bass Rod/Reel setup. I was about 35'-50' out from the "Danger Shoal" maker on the west end of SI. It happened right at dark, rod was wet as well as my hands. When I went to cast there was a slight back lash in my braid and the momentum of throwing the 2 1/2 bait shot my rod straight out if my hand. I started to jump in, but hesitated at the last sec bc my iPhone was in my pocket. I paddled over to it and watched it bubble down to the bottom as it sank. It was right on the edge of the shoal before it started to really drop off in 11.5'-13' of water.
The rod is a custom bass rod with a red/black spider wrap and the red is a Calcutta 400D. If anyone happens to be fishing the bay this week and snahs the line sreels it in I will give you $100 to get it back. I will post a pick of the rod as well. If it wouldn't have been dark and/or the fact I was alone with out an anchor, then I would have swam down to try and find it. Again I will give you a $100 if you catch my gear.....

Damn, sorry to hear that. The same exact thing happened to me in Mission Bay. I didn't jump in for the same reason, the cell phone. It's probably a good thing I didn't. I was in the channel and the current was moving so fast, may kayak would have been gone, and I would have been swimming with one arm trying to catch it. My combo was nowhere near as expensive as yours though. Hope luck falls your way.

Two weeks ago I lost a really nice rod reel set up by being dumb.
Two days later I broke another pole trying to get out of the kelp. I replaced the broken pole and caught a yellowtail last week so now I could care less about the lost / broken gear. |

Yikes, no leash Jeff? Sounds like an excuse to spin up another masterpiece.

Dude 13 feet! Don't wait to long or give up on that. Don't wait for somebody to snag it either. Get a mask and some dive fins. You can go 13 feet in a couple kicks.
