Eastern Sierra Report

Unfortunately no pics, but a fun trip up to the June lake loop. Water temp was warm and trout were plentiful for most, just not us. Everyone was using a variety of power bait to bring them in, but I'm just not a bait and wait guy.

Day 1 7am was at Silver Lake using a variety of lures: trolled rapala, casting kastmaster, mice tail, trout trap, rooster tail, etc...por nada.... Friend managed one smalley on live worm. Left at noon to the wives empty handed.

Day 1 5pm Gull Lake. Took my 3 year old on my Stealth 12 and wife took a Cobra out for her first yak ride. Didn't expect much between having to watch the little one and telling the wife how to maneuver and use the yak, but to my surprise did manage a smallish trout on k-master. My sons first fish ever and from the yak . He was super stoked and kept saying it splashed daddy. Very memorable hour on the lake.

Day 2 Gull lake morning...not much better. Tried all the above and got pissed/bored with no bites and watching all the bait and wait guys pulling up fish. So I took the Stealth for a few laps around the lake with rapala in tow. Now it got fun. 3 fish in 1 hour. 2 decent trout and one small mouth bass (i think?). Didn't know they were in the lake or could survive the winter when it freezes over?? Had to get back to the wives so left by noon.

Other than that, a lot of trash talk and beers with good friends and family. Nice to get away and out of site for awhile.

On a side note, I've never seen yakers/paddle boarders on these lakes before. Been 2-3 years since I've been, but I was amazed at how this sport has exploded. I can understand by the beach/coastal areas, but in the sierras? Lots of cars with yaks/boards on them and although they weren't outnumbering the motor boats, there were quite a few. Time to invest in some of these companies me thinks.

yea bait and wait easily outdoes lures in the eastern sierras unless you're fishing the creeks. i'm yakless at the moment but i lost count how many trout i reeled in over 3 days last week, including three alpers

I went the first weekend of this month. Was disappointed in how low lake Sabrina and south lake were so only put the yak on the water once and managed a few. In the creeks was another story, caught so many trout, lost count around 20 around the first hour I got there before I setup camp I tried bait fishing which ended up in swallowed hooks so I switched back to lures, only hurt/killed 5 fish the whole weekend all of which went into the frying pan. Yumm!
