Must have launched at Leo, cause I didn't see you at County. Lots of surf rejections over there though.

not really

coming in faster than 7 days ago , but not as big . with some peddles and paddle , not an issue ? with determination and and a paddle , shouldn't take more than a couple swings at it . i wish i was on the water right now .

well I woke up, just not early enough.. Got there at 730 and guys were coming back in, you can guess why!! Was super happy\sad that I missed early bite..

well now the fun part... The waves were pretty rough and erratic.. Could not time any sets.. After dragging the titanic down to beach waited and waited.. All of a sudden it was noon and I'm pissed at this point.. Surfers were having a blast so fun to watch...

met a cool guy that lived on beach.. He saw me try again after a couple hours and gave me a hand.. The waves still 4 to 5 high and breaking at shore 1 sec and out 10, 20 yards another second,, so I go for it and barely make it past first waves without being knocked off the big wave that hit me.. Paddle hard and see a bigger wave forming and prepare to jump... Got to scared to jump so held on tight and prayed to all 3 gods... To my amazement and the 30 surfers I made it over!! The titanic was in the ocean finally.. Funny cause the surfers were clapping and cheering me on as they kept watching me attempt launch..

once out in zone, I see white caps and big swells... Oh great.. Tried to fish, but water kept coming over and almost flipped... And not 1 kayak around.. Very windy.. So turned around and headed in.. Now the fun part.. Waves still horrible.. I see surfers watching and lifeguards so swallow my pride and start to time it (always been successful landing).. I time the waves for 15 minutes and finally let big one go at end and paddle hard... All of a sudden I look back and see bigger wave coming out of no where... Ohhn shitt! I hold on tight and stupid me get thrown out.. Lifeguard rushes to grab yak and myself.. Surfers help...

lifeguard tells me I timed it well but last wave came out of nowhere so I felt better, but ego still hurt along with cuts and scraps from hitting kayak..

still love going out and will again ... Btw, fished mission bay sunday... First time.. Man is that a lake !!

Hmmmmm, I may have heard a story like that before.

That place can be brutal but can also be very rewarding.

Glad you are ok, hope you did not give up too much gear to the sea.

There you have it folks...1st hand evidence that the surf is too dangerous to fish in Malibu. Your safest bet would be San Diego bay.

It is the size combined with the frequency that can produce the problems. I would much rather go out in 4 foot swell at 20 secs than 3 footers at 10 or even worse multiple swells of 2-3 from different directions. Was that you that stopped by as I was loading?

yup that's what I learned sitting on beach pondering best case.. I did 4 foot waves first time out but they were 15 seconds apart and broke close to shore..

yesterday was coming in from multiple directions and breaking at random spots.. Thought I was crazy till lifeguard told me the same thing..hopefully today was better launching..
