4/1 Opener South LJ
deeper. Fished 1 - 5 pm. Light breeze, t-shirt weather, saw no other kayakers. Somehow I managed to find my personal best, 34 inches and 11 lbs. Lost another good one too, burning drag on 30 lb. then he just let go. Landed about 12 fish mostly in the 23 to 25 inch range, all on plastics, near the bottom. Also caught a log barracuda on the iron, they came up crashing all around the kayak at one point. Fishing 70 -80 feet deep in South La Jolla. Landed in 2 to 8' surf at Big Rock. Luckily I timed it for the 2' part. : : :

Impressive ling. Even more impressive that you could make that landing. I saw some real crushers breaking around there in the morning.

For land reference - an Action Jackson shot. There is the Dolphin sitting inside of me. And this fish coughed up a still-nosehooked sardine complete with a foot of line. Someone was fishing 15#. Ha!
I have been quietly C&Ring the 2 footers quite a bit lately - super fun on lighter bass tackle. For those interested, I will be giving a FREE kayak fishing seminar at Fastlane (Dana Landing area) right on Mission Bay, this Saturday. Sharing the speaking honors with Drew and Morgan, I think it starts at 11 am. C'mon down if you are interested in trying out test pedalling a Hobie on the bay. 'LJ SEA MONSTER'
