The docks near the Jolly Roger all have locked gates on them, so I don't think you can launch from them... I guess you could just launch off the rocks, they're not super steep.

Park by the little pier inside the harbor and launch off the dock to the north. That's where I see 90% of the kayaks launch from. It's free parking there.

^That's a great idea!!! My wife and I have walked by that little pier a million times, and never noticed that dock doesn't have a gate. I'm going to try this tomorrow (Saturday).

My son and I launch from that location just past the little pier all of the time. And there is bathrooms right there. Not much parking available as you will be parking on the street. Just remember to leave or park with a little room so you can unload and load your yaks back on/in the vehicle.

I'm not very flexible and the dock launch poses problems for me. I pay to park and sell my pass to someone for less than I paid for. $8 dollars to park and I sell it to the next guy for five. No risk of falling in the water that way for us clumsy guys. The ramp is just so much easier for me.

I'll be at the ramp around 6:30A tomorrow (Saturday) - planning to stay inside the outer wall... I'll be in a Blue FnD. PM me if you want to meet up or need some help launching from the dock! There's usually a lot of street parking near the dock that early in the morning. |

Just went out there tonight to do some scouting. The bigger dredging barge is parked right there in front of the little pier.
The little dredging barge is running around causing all kinds of underwater ruckus and freaking out all the fish. The water looks like mud; at least from the shore. |

Thanks all for info/report. I'm planning on heading out on Wednesday to test run a used yak I got for a friend. Have a delivery at Board and Brew in the area and going afterwards.

I passed - saw the mess that the dredging barge was creating last night and decided to wait until next weekend.
Hopefully they'll be done by then. |

That post with the callouts on the dock is a public dock for boats coming and going. Easy to launch, but you'll need your cart. Parking can be easy at times but tough depending on the day. I've always got front row parking on a weekend and a 30-150' walk with the kayak cart. Best part is the docks have hoses and easy no surf launch. No gates or fees, either.
I think the boat launch on the beach side only has truck WITH trailer parking - can't park a car/truck w/out a trailer AND you have to pay for parking. Thanks for the posts Addicted cause I was gonna head out there Sunday but no go now. |
