Long Beach jetty

Hit 72nd street for a beach launch around 6:45 this morning. Little breezy with light chop. The beach had a tall sand berm on it and the sand was pretty soft but soft wheels on the cart made it manageable.

Made my way out to the end of the LB breakwater by the bait barges. Wind died down nicely for a while. Fished the backside for a couple undersized calicos. Then fished the other side and nada. Did manage 2 small sandies on the way in. Used min-hammers almost exclusively- no livewell yet. Met 2 other yakers who are also on BWE but we were the only kayakers I saw fishing. I think their day was pretty slow as well. Tried for a hali along the beach on the way in, but Mr. Hali wasn't cooperating.

All in all my first trip out to the breakwater. Glad I did it. Got back to the beach around 1:00.

Yeah, that parking lot there is nice, and if you get there early, the street right before the parking lot (actually alongside) the parking lot, is free and right by the showerhead. It looks like you are right on the water, but there is that huge sand berm. I sometimes surf fish that spot for halibut, and it's not easy to climb up it with gear! I wondered how it would be to manage with a kayak.

Yesterday, I kayaked Mother's Beach, and helped a guy load his kayak. It was a sit-in ocean-style kayak, and he launched from Mother's, exited the jetty, and went all the way to the breakwater and back to Mother's Beach.

So.. I guess it's definitely do-able! Nice day to yak.. I wish I was out there.
