2013 Hobie Fishing World Championships Qualifier/Jamaica Bay
Anyone want to join me in a ride with all our gear across the country to qualify?.... Wade Re: Welcome to the 2013 Kayak Fishing Classic at Jamaica Bay It has been a rough year for many of us in New York and New Jersey. Floyd Bennett Field and much of Gateway National Recreation Area suffered severe damage from Super storm Sandy. We are not going to let her get the best of us and after negotiations with the park and an agreement to make some repairs; they have given us the go ahead to hold the tournament. It will take place from Thursday, May 16th to Sunday, May 19th 2013 at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn I'm also excited to announce that the tournament this year has been chosen as one of the few qualifiers in the country for the 2013 Hobie Fishing Worlds Championship to be held in the Marlo River region of Victoria, Australia. We are working on some options to create a scholarship to assist the winner of our Grand Slam Division with expenses to Australia. Also new this year will be the addition of Fluke (Summer Flounder) to the targeted species. We would like to thank all past and present participants and sponsors for supporting this great event for charity and elevating this tournament to a World Class Event. The focus at this Catch & Release Event will be on sustainability to include Recycling and Leave No Trace practices. The Kayak Fishing Classic at Jamaica Bay will be here before we know it. With a shortened fall fishing season and tough winter, many of us can't wait to get our kayaks in the water and start fishing again. The Kayak Fishing Classic at Jamaica Bay is a great way to catch the first fish of the year and hook up with old and make some new friends, all for the benefit of worthy causes. Those of us who share the enthusiasm for the sport of Kayak Fishing know this is a premier event that shouldn't be missed. Registration will open shortly. Looking forward to seeing you in May, Capt. Jerry and staff

That's the same weekend as the rock fish opener in Northern California. It's not a qualifier event but gimme shelter one of the biggest kayak fishing events on the west coast. 160 contestants last year at the sixth annual event. I believe there is already 80 something people entered for this year. Shelter Cove CA is an amazing place I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance.
