C-Bad
I've launched there only once. It was a very small surf day. I launched north of the plant, north of the plants jetties. Caught calico, sandbass and assorted rockfish on my modified drop shot rig I use for kelp and rocky areas.
12 lb leader tied in a Palomar with a 18" tag end. Tie on a wide gap worm hook in the palomar knot. A snap swivel to the end of the tag end. A heavy rubber band to the snap and a torpedo sinker to the rubber band. If the sinker wedges in the rocks the band snaps and the rest of the rig comes free. |

I boardfish it all the time (orange 9'8"). It's hit and miss. I wouldn't launch my kayak there tho, the surf changes depending on the tide.

I fish that area a lot. I have found a few good stones on the south side of the cayon in the 150 to 250 foot range. Your surf launching skills have to be up to the task as the waves can bounce off the jetties and you can have waves coming from two different directions. Your first day there should be on a small swell day IMO. Otherwise, this could be a good alternative to driving down south to LJ. Just not as many WSB or YT up here, but they are around.

There are two sets of reefs out of the O'side harbor, one to the WNW, AR2, and one to the WSW, AR1. AR2 has some reefs in about 65-70 feet of water but I've never gotten any rockfish there. AR1 has some spots as deep as 120ft. I've only been to that area once and was trying for a T but didn't find one. You can find the long/lat locations is numerous places.

This winter the reefs got hit kind of heavy by the party boats, first time I've ever seen them fish the reefs, so they may be a little depleted. I'm in the mood for some O'side fishing though and got some intel on some other possible locations, up for some scouting? Can't promise success, but it will be a new area to try out. It is about a three mile trek though.

Launching in Cbad can either be really easy or totally suck. I've been on both ends of that stick and the latter, especially in winter is not fun. It's close to us North County guys but it's not the fishery that LJ is.

All over C-bad. Ponto, Tammy, State Beach by the campgrounds, Power plant. Hey if you time it right you should be ok but like the other guys have said, it can get pretty unpredictable.
