When I saw that beautiful box of flies, the hair on the back of my neck stood up! I've got to get tying to assemble an assortment like that - I have all the supplies - just lazyness to blame... |

Friggin' sweet! I need to get me a starter outfit. Last time I tried fly fishing was 23 years ago in a creek in PA. Was a blast!

That looks like a blast, I have a 6wt rod that I rarely use for trout. It could be fun on the spotties. I really need to learn how to use the damn thing. Where do you buy your flies?

From one fly fisher to another all I can say is awesome. Granted all the fly fishing I do is in fresh which makes what you do even cooler in my book. Best of luck with the yellow. Last question... Did you tie those?

I should have my new Outback in a week or so. Send me a P.M. & I'd be happy to join you if you'd like some company.
Would like to find these elusive S.D. Bay West Coast 'Bonefish' I keep hearing about. : Servicing all my fresh & saltwater fly reels for trout season & have a trip to Belize in the planning stage. FFY |

Sounds like we have enough interest to have a fly rod only bay bass tournament!
We need to all meet up in one of the bays and throw the bug wand... The two best fly shops for salt water flyfishing in San Diego are Blue Water Tackle in Solana Beach, and SD Fly Shop in Liberty Station (point loma) both have a good selection of flies for salt water. SD Fly Shop also has classes on flyfishing the surf and bays and evening classes on tying flies. Most of the other shops like Strouds and Norpine concentrate on fresh water, but are a good source of tying supplies... Last edited by Baja_Traveler; 02-25-2013 at 07:07 AM. |

Nice flies! And nice burger! Haven't ate at Nessy's for awhile. Thanks for the reminder. Need to pass by the next time I drive back home from fishing.

I always wanted to try out SD bay, that looks like fun. Every time I get down there I hear LJ calling to me and I end up fishing LJ. I try fly fishing LJ 8-10 times last year, and caught Kelp bass, barracuda, and rockfish, but nothing big, I been trying for a YT but no luck. I am not even sure if a WSB will take a fly? any thoughts on how to catch one of the bigger species on flies?
