How well do stickers adhere to the Malibu Kayaks?

I found a website based company that creates personalized stickers that will have my alias "DanoDog, Lakeside, CA" for about 35 bucks with an airbrushed effect. The product uses 3M Controltac vinyl. Will this stick on an X-Factor? I hate throw $35 out the window if it fails to stick properly. I did try to search but I did not find specific references to vinyl. Thanks in advance.

You will need to do some prep work on the MK to make it stick well. Malibu molds are shot peened creating a dimpled surface. This makes them look better in the long run as you don't see every rub mark.

You would need to sand/smooth out the area you want to adhere the sticker. There is a dedicated area to place stickers, find the smooth rectangle along the side.

2X12 sticker for $35.........ouch!

Not sure if the quality is the same but they usually have a stand at the mall. They will design and print out stickers on the spot, much cheaper.

Thanks for the information. I will check to see if I can get better pricing at the mall. I found a website that said you could also use a hair dryer to warm up the sanded area to make it stick better.

I have the Stealth 14 and had to place registration stickers on the bow because I have a BassYaks motor rigged on mine, as my state requires it (NY). I ran into the same situation with the pebbly surface of the hull and stickers not wanting to stick very well. After a conversation with CJ at OEX, I marked the areas I wanted to place the stickers on, carefully sanded them smooth with a palm sander (being careful not to take too much plastic off)... then heated the area with a heat gun briefly to really get a smooth finish and also help adhere the stickers better (I was doing this on a rather cold November day last year in New York). The stickers went on fine and have shown no evidence of peeling off. Did the same in the back of the yak where the smooth spot was for my boat's name "Fish Taco" (I had to enlarge the smooth area that was already there). Worked out fine. :-) Good luck!
