High Surf Advisory for Labor Day Weekend

Here is the story, but not sure how this will affect La Jolla. May be dangerous farther north.

High Surf Advisory

COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA 1115 AM PDT THU AUG 30 2012 ...HIGH SURF ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN EXTENDED THROUGH LABOR DAY...AND ARE NOW IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM FRIDAY THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY... .INCREASING SWELL HEIGHTS AND PERIODS FROM TWO SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE STORMS AND WHAT IS CURRENTLY HURRICANE ILEANA WILL CREATE LARGE SURF TOMORROW THROUGH LABOR DAY. SURF IS EXPECTED TO PEAK SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...WITH SETS NEAR 10 FEET ALONG SOUTHERLY FACING BEACHES. DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. A FULL MOON FRIDAY WILL INCREASE THE CHANCE OF ENHANCED BEACH EROSION AND MINOR COASTAL FLOODING DURING HIGH TIDES WITHIN THE ADVISORY PERIOD. CAZ042-310215- /O.EXT.KSGX.SU.Y.0013.120831T1000Z-120904T0100Z/ ORANGE COUNTY COASTAL AREAS- 1115 AM PDT THU AUG 30 2012 ...HIGH SURF ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM FRIDAY TO 6 PM PDT MONDAY... * SURF HEIGHTS...ON FRIDAY...INFREQUENT SETS OF 5 TO 8 FEET... BUILDING SATURDAY AND SUNDAY TO...6 TO 10 FEET...AND LOWERING ON LABOR DAY TO 5 TO 8 FEET. HIGHER SURF LIKELY ON BEACHES FACING DIRECTLY TOWARDS THE SOUTH AND SOUTH SOUTHEAST. * TIMING...3 AM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM PDT MONDAY EVENING.

more details make Fri look okish, Sat, Sun iffy:

Long period SSW swell forerunners (185-200 at 18-20"+) will gradually fill in through the day on Friday. Expect the front edge of this swell to be lully and inconsistent and focus at those deepwater breaks that really like the long period swell. Those select breaks in Orange County, select parts of San Diego and select parts of LA and Southern Ventura will see shoulder-head high and some larger sets, especially over the afternoon/evening hours and in Orange County.

The bulk of the swell will build in and be strongest for the weekend, with a peak Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. For the weekend we're looking for head high waves at the exposed breaks of Southern Ventura/Northern LA, Orange County and San Diego along with larger sets. Good spots, especially in Orange County and select breaks in those above regions see sets to a couple feet overhead and standouts in Orange County will be even larger at times with sets running several feet overhead. Those waves then slowly fade on Monday.

I've been hearing about this a lot. I'm having second thoughts about going Sunday to La Jolla. Since i don't have too much experience surf launching!

.HIGH SURF ADVISORY IN EFFECT THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY... .BUOY OBSERVATIONS LAST EVENING WERE SHOWING SOME PERIODS OF 22 SECONDS...FORERUNNERS OF THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE SWELL. HOWEVER AT THIS TIME THE LOCAL SWELL GENERATED BY THE FRESH TO STRONG NORTHWEST BREEZES OVER THE OFFSHORE WATERS IS STILL THE LARGEST CONTRIBUTOR TO THE COMBINED SEA HEIGHTS. THOUGH THE START TIME OF THIS ADVISORY MAY BE PREMATURE...STILL EXPECTING SWELLS GENERATED BY HURRICANE ILEANA TO ARRIVE TODAY...BUT THE DIRECTION OF 165 DEGREES INDICATES MOST OF THESE WILL BYPASS SAN DIEGO COUNTY BEACHES. THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE SWELL PERIOD SHOULD DECREASE TO 20 SECONDS AND HEIGHTS BUILD A COUPLE OF FEET BY THE TIME OF THIS AFTERNOONS LOW TIDE...SO SHOULD BE MEETING HIGH SURF CRITERIA BY THEN...ALTHOUGH STILL WILL HAVE SOME LONG LULLS BETWEEN THE LARGER SETS. FOR SATURDAY LOOKING FOR SEVERAL FEET INCREASE IN HEIGHTS AND MORE FREQUENT OCCURRENCE OF THE LARGER SET WAVES. FOR SUNDAY SLIGHT DECREASE IN HEIGHTS BUT MORE FREQUENT SETS. ON MONDAY EXPECT A GREATER DOWNWARD TREND IN HEIGHTS WITH INCREASING INTERVAL BETWEEN SETS.
