How to handle this situation with Abu

Long story short.

I bought a Toro 50 off Craigslist.
Reel felt good, guy seemed honest.

Had to send another reel in, figured I'd send my Toro in for service since the drag felt a little sticky.
Other than that, Toro worked great.

Abu emails me back, reel is too corroded to fix.
I call guy from CL, no help.

I get reel back from Abu, and it's completely non-operational. It doesn't engage out of free spool, the thumb piece is just wobbeling around.

I understand that if it's as bad as they say it was taking it apart could potentially ruin its integrity, but the reel worked just fine when I sent it out. I would expect it to come back in the same condition in which I sent it out.

How should I go about this, do I have a case?

Letters to the higher ups! A well-crafted letter will get you all kinds of good response.

Can't speak for Abu, but I did that with a Shimano awhile back (almost the same situation). It came back in worse condition than when I sent it. I was respectful and after two letters back and forth with them, I got a brand new replacement. I didn't even ask for a replacement.

That's strange, I have never had a issue with Abu. Follow the advice above and go higher up

Suprising, Apu is a cool cat

oooh snap!! Wait, you said Abu not Apu Sorry about that.

Good Luck!!

Tell them you're a huge fan of their products and if they're not willing to help a customer you'll take your losses and buy from their competitors.

Give em a call and explain the situation. Try to get in touch with a higher up if they give you the run around.

Also see if they'll offer an upgrade or replacement. I've had other manufacturers offer me a replacement for a small fee if not free for problematic reels that had to be sent in.

Worse case scenario, having someone else or yourself tear it down and repair it.
