10/31 LJ Spooky yellowtail

Launched after Arne and Brad was ahead of us both. Tough bait making at the pier. Mongo macs just looked too big. I got 5 in the tank that were under 10 inches and decided to wander out. Nothing going on top for the first few hours, lost 2 baits to lingcod and a third fell prey to the shortbiting bonita. Around 9:30 decided to point it toward the beach. I saw a line of breezing fish coming south out of the deeper water, at first I figured they were big mackeral, but as I paddled toward them I saw an occasional fin, tail and finally a head popping up that made me paddle in high gear. Slid up on this big patch of YT and threw the iron, nothing, not a bump, not a follower. Threw again and let it sink a few seconds and wound in por nada. Then looking over the side I see the school passing 10-20 feet under me. Dropped the yoyo a few times for nothing and they pop up again. I'd cast a couple times and then paddle after to set up and cast again, Even lobbed a mac right at em. Finally after about 1/2 hour my mackeral goes off. Fish on. Put my low rigged last bait on the flyline and chased the fish for another 15 minutes before they disappeared. I think I intercepted the fish around the 3/4 in 150 feet and then spent most of the time around 120 feet chasing them. Called out on the radio, but no answer.

Most of the fish looked like 8-12 pounders, but some looked more like upper teens. Mine was a niner
