Setup for iron?

Looking for a combo for tossing iron for calicoes and yr and anything hungry for metal, I was thinking of a Daiwa saltist levelwind, but don't know which rod would be good in the 150$ range

That may be ok but I don't think you will like the casting distance with a level wind, I have a Saltist 20 on an 8 foot med hvy and it cast crank bait a mile, but if you are just droppin it over the side it will be great

Yeah I wouldnt recommend a level wind if you plan to toss irons. It just gets in the way.

Shimano Torium & Diawa Saltist (20) are both great reels for tossing irons all day.
I'd recommend a 8-9 foot Medium-Medium Heavy.

Turners has some decent jigsticks in your price range.

Hey Andrew if your looking for a surface iron rod, I have a custom wrapped Calstar 90J I'd let go for $100.

So I take it work is good since your getting some new gear?

FWIW, Turners in Kearny Mesa has some 9' Graftech jigsticks on sale for $99. I know they aren't the best customer service-wise, but a decent stick for the $$. Craigslist could net you something used and probably better quality, too.

I'm not sure if it would be for surface irons or what, whats the lure wt rating on that rod you're selling?

Yea, work is good - nobody wants to hear this here but I'm planning to get a little center console hopefully some time this year..... So I need some gear to bring with me

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm semi new to Salt fishing but I find reeling in without levelwind kinda a pain.. but I'm just not used to using my finger to fill the spool evenly I guess... I often hear about those Graftechs, I'm thinking of getting one of those for a big swimbait rod, I hear they're heavy though, so either that or a Crucial.

Take a look at calstar,phenix and seeker, not the cheapest but you cant go wrong.....just dont dropem over the side!

I'll second or third it, forget the levelwind. There are a bunch of rods that will work well. Seekers and CalStars are proven winners and you can't go wrong with them. You can about always find some good used equipment out there. Day at the docks is Sunday. I'm sure there will be plenty to check out. As for a new rod, I was impressed with the new/old Seeker Pinhead series. They have brought back some of thier time proven classic jigsticks. I really liked the D8, they have the Ulus too. Old school turks head and cork tape and they are around $150. Plenty of reels too. New and used as your budget allows. 300 series Newells, Daiwa Sealines, Saltists, or thier new Seagate, Shimano Toriums. They are affordable new and easy to find used. I just picked a new 8' Pro Saber for $4. They deals are out there. Mike
